With your fire equipment costing hundreds of thousands of dollars it only makes sense to protect that investment with the best lubricants
Let's face it, fire equipment is expensive and repairing or replacing this type of equipment can get costly. There is a lot riding on the reliability of emergency equipment and a untimely breakdown could mean disaster.
With emergency equipment experiencing quick starts with no warm up time coupled with excessive idling you begin to see that your engines are under a tremendous amount of stress.
Proper lubricants play a bigger role in the protection of your equipment then you may think. Did you know that most of Amsoil's lubricants will reduce the operating temperature on average 30-40 degrees on critical components? Did you also know that most component failure can be contributed to a lubrication failure?
The Forgotten Fluid-Hydraulic Oil
If you are in a cold climate and have experienced stiff hydraulics in
freezing temperatures then you know that this could potentially cause
serious problems in an emergency situation. Amsoil was the first
hydraulic oil to achieve the mehf rating, which stands for Maximum
Efficiency Hydraulic Fluid. The performance features of Amsoil's
Hydraulic Fluid:
- Extended oil drain intervals (up to 3 times your current interval)
- Antiwear protection for high-pressure systems
- Recommended for gear, vane and piston pumps
- Contain rust, oxidation and foam inhibitors
- Designed for extreme temperature operations
- Hydrolytically stable and readily separates from water
- Improves mobile equipment efficiency (mehf)
Amsoil' Synthetic AW Series Antiwear Hydraulic Oils
AMSOIL Synthetic AW Series Antiwear Hydraulic Oils are shear-stable, ling-life lubricants based on high-quality synthetic oil technology. These oil are formulated with a premium additive system that inhibits oxidation to prevent acid formation and viscosity increase and inhibit rust and foam (providing smooth hydraulic operation).
Most OEM's will dictate that you change your oil after so many miles or hours. Amsoil has formulated their synthetic oils to exceed these recommendations and in doing so, it does not void your warranty. In fact you can learn about warranties here and see why the practice of extending your drain intervals is perfectly acceptable.
Jackson Township Fire Department has been using Amsoil for over 10 years with great success and a huge savings to tax payers.
Jackson Township really saw the value in Amsoil back in the late 90's when after taking an oil sample the viscosity was way out of range. Further investigation showed that the oil had thinned considerably (from a 15W-40 down to a 10W) due to a leaking fuel injector.
The mechanic who caught the problem saved the Fire Department thousands of dollars in costly engine repairs by catching a minor problem before it became a major problem.
One of the benefits to using Amsoil is that we have a very comprehensive oil analysis program that monitors exactly what is going on inside your engines and other components.

Test Amsoil
The best way to evaluate Amsoil is to conduct a small level test on one or two pieces of equipment. This is how most of my 80 plus clients have been introduced to Amsoil. Try it out on a small scale where you can measure the results and complare it to your current lubricants.
The results will amaze you and you will see a clear separation in performance. Most of my clients see about a 20-25% reduction in their actual lubrication cost.
Saving money is nice, but saving all the downtime associated with conventional lubricants can be even a bigger savings. Not to mention all of your equipment will be getting better fuel mileage and with fuel cost at or above $3.00 dollars a gallon the savings are worth switching over.
